The Community Champion Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement 2015/16

‘Christine Kemp’
The Mosslands School, Wallasey
Nominated by: Amanda Morgan
After making the short journey to Wallasey, Wirral, I was greeted by both Christine and her latest Guide Dog puppy in training, a Labrador named Verdi.
I was overwhelmed at the amount of people that had come to see Christine receive her award.
The crowd included teaching staff, governors, close friends, and previous puppies that now work as Guide Dogs (including Petal, the original Mosslands School Puppy who was there with her new owner).
After a brief introduction from the Head teacher, Mr Whiteley, it was over to me to do the honours in presenting the award. I only had to look at Christine to see how much this meant to her and her friends and colleagues.
Afterwards, we all posed for photos. This involved the interesting experience of trying to convince five dogs to face the same way, but true to their training they all behaved incredibly well – they were more than happy to pose for a few snaps!
Amanda Morgan, who had nominated Christine, had a special cake made in the shape of a yellow Labrador (no one wanted to cut into it, but I am sure it was very tasty!).
The afternoon ended with tears of joy, hugs, and a lovely buffet. I said my goodbyes and left the party in full swing.
Thank you to Mosslands School for having me and congratulations to Christine Kemp. The work that she continues to do as a puppy walker, fundraiser and School Ambassador makes her a very worthy Community Champion.
